Become an Alexander Teacher

Jacqueline Evans with pupil

  • Congratulations

“The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your mind”
    Kahlil Gibran

Congratulations on reading this far. We understand from this that you have had some very positive experience of the Alexander Technique and are now seriously considering taking your practice a step further and thinking about a career as an Alexander Technique teacher. We think that being an Alexander teacher is one of the most rewarding jobs there is.

  • Why train as a teacher?

Our thinking is our reality, yet so often we are unaware of what we are thinking. Training to be an Alexander teacher will give you the extraordinary opportunity to look deeply into habitual patterns of thinking and bring them into the realm of consciousness. This gives you the chance to choose your reality instead of being governed by unconscious (and therefore uncontrollable) behaviour.

Our movement is a reflection of the quality of our thinking: as you learn to free yourself from unconscious thoughts, so your body will become a flexible, dynamic organism.

“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you always got”

Using the principles of the Alexander Technique you can rediscover your innate sense of ease of being, and your true spontaneity. This happens as you let go of unconscious habit.

And then you can discover the joy of passing that on. Teaching the Technique is one of the most rewarding jobs there is. You’ll meet interesting people, find yourself working in environments you never thought of before, and will have the immense satisfaction of being able to guide pupils to learn to reduce pain, improve performance, and minimise stress.

Susannah Baker, MSTAT, writes …

"I trained at the Bristol Alexander School and loved my time there. I feel very fortunate to have been taught by excellent teachers who provided a firm foundation in the principles of the Technique as well as the practical skills needed to go on and teach. I have since set up a successful practice as an Alexander teacher, which I could not have done without having trained in such a supportive environment."
